Job Description & Overview


The DevOps Engineer 2 is responsible for implementing, automating, monitoring, and maintaining critical systems, with a strong emphasis on infrastructure management, CI/CD pipelines, and scripting to streamline operational workflows. While performing key system administration duties, the engineer will lead efforts to evolve our IT systems using a modern DevOps methodology. The position demands proficiency in Linux systems, cloud-based platforms like AWS, infrastructure-as-code (IaC) principles, and the ability to deploy, manage, and troubleshoot database environments.

This role will help shape the company’s DevOps strategy and will work closely with internal teams to ensure scalable, secure, and high-performing infrastructure.

Work Location: This role is primarily on-site in Scottsdale, AZ, but eligible candidates may work remotely a portion of the time depending on business needs and supervisor approval.

Educational & Experience Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field or equivalent practical experience
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a DevOps, Infrastructure, or Systems Administration role
Security Requirements
  • U.S. Citizenship Required
  • Active TS/SCI Clearance Preferred

Required Qualifications
  • Strong experience managing Linux-based environments in production
  • Hands-on experience with cloud-based infrastructure (AWS) and technologies (Azure, Office 365)
  • Proficient in scripting languages such as Bash, Python, or PowerShell
  • Familiarity with CI/CD tools and version control systems like Git
  • Experience with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes preferred)
  • Excellent problem-solving, documentation, and time management skills
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to implement network security control services such as: routers, firewalls, switches, access filters, advanced authentication systems, and intrusion detection systems
  • Install new / rebuild existing servers and configure hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage, etc. in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements
  • Develop and maintain installation and configuration procedures
  • Contribute to and maintain system standards
  • Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups
  • Perform periodic performance reporting to support capacity planning
  • Perform regular file archival and purge as necessary
  • Create, change, and delete user accounts per request
  • Repair and recover from hardware or software failures.  Coordinate and communicate with impacted constituencies
  • Shows initiative and have the ability to work on multiple tasks
  • Exhibits effective time management skills
  • Ability to work independently to meet set goals and objectives
  • Ability to work in a team environment and use available resources in meeting team deadlines
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with configuration management tools (Ansible, Puppet, Chef)
  • Familiarity with monitoring tools (Prometheus, Nagios, CloudWatch, etc.)
  • Experience with network scanning tools such as Nessus, AlienVault, Nexpose Insight, OpenVAS, or Qualsys
  • Familiarity with compliance controls: STIGs/CIS Benchmarks, NIST SP 800-171/800-53, Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC), System Security Plans.
  • Experience with event log management tools such as  ELK, Splunk, or Graylog
  • Exposure to Microsoft technologies (Active Directory, Exchange, Office 365, Intune, Azure)
  • Experience with high-availability database technologies such as Oracle Database, PostgreSQL, Microsoft SQL Server, MongoDB, or MySQL
  • Familiarity with IT methodologies such as ITIL, ITSM, and InfoSec best practicies
  • Certified in one or more of the following CompTIA A+, Security+, Network +, Linux +, Microsoft MCITP, MCSE, MCSA, MCITP, Cisco CCENT, CCNA, CCNP, CCIE, VMware VTSP, VCA, VCP, and Citrix CCA
Responsibilities
  • Serve as subject matter expert on DevOps practices, systems administration, and cloud infrastructure
  • Maintain and improve CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitLab CI, Jenkins, AWS CodePipeline)
  • Automate infrastructure and configuration management using tools like Ansible, Terraform, or AWS CloudFormation
  • Manage and optimize AWS environments (EC2, S3, RDS, IAM, VPCs, etc.)
  • Administer Linux systems (Ubuntu, CentOS, RHEL) including patching, performance tuning, and security hardening
  • Provide support for Windows-based systems when necessary (e.g., AD, Exchange)
  • Deploy, maintain, and troubleshoot SQL and NoSQL databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB)
  • Develop and maintain internal tooling and scripts (Python, Bash, PowerShell, etc.)
  • Monitor systems and respond to incidents using tools like CloudWatch, Prometheus, Grafana, or ELK stack
  • Maintain documentation for infrastructure, processes, and recovery procedures
  • Contribute to disaster recovery planning and periodic testing
  • Assist end users with access, usage, and system-related requests
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams on product deployments, security, and scaling initiatives
  • Participate in IT infrastructure upgrades and rollouts
  • Assist with strategic planning for infrastructure and DevOps tooling
  • Ensure systems meet company security and compliance standards
  • Create status reports for IT management
  • Participate in on-call support rotation
  • Contribute to company’s Quality Management System (ISO 9001:2015 compliant)
  • Perform other duties as assigned
